Linoprints

Linoprinting is a traditional printmaking technique which works with layers and cutting delicate designs.

The printmaking technique helps me create graphic and consistent visual language. Before taking my designs to print I often play around with layers digitally.

The Collected Schizophrenias

My final Lino printing project for uni. I was heavily influenced by The Collected Schizophrenias by Esmé Weijun Wang. Through linoprinting I tried to portray experiences that people have gone through.

A book that dives into what life is can be like for someone with schizophrenia and for family members looking after them. The book looks at a magnitude of different accounts and is very insightful.

Why we’re Polarized

Based on the book Why We’re Polarized by Erza Klein which analyses the American system exploring identity politics and uncovering the foundations of the politics. The prints reflect on the divergence of political extremes and how we are led to make unconscious decisions that are political surrounding our own identities and choices. I investigate into the repeating patterns that shape the American politics and parties, political figures come and go but the same flawed system works by separating people into groups and categories.

The project was really enlightening for me and I enjoyed tackling difficult subject areas. For inspiration I looked into German Expressionism and Cubism. I decided to depict the themes of politics by looking into old retro mechanic machinery. For this project it was important for me to not just depict historic and contemporary influential figures in politics and instead look through the critical lens of systems and fractions.

The Twins Project

These three colour Lino prints are based off a true story about twins which could communicate through numbers. This was discovered through observation of a surgeon who was caring for them and their disability needs. Through this new language form they were able to communicate and calculate sums which shouldn’t have been possible. In the end, the decision was made that this was unhealthy for them and so they were separated. Through this they lost their numeral language.

My Lino prints are slightly larger then A5, with one print being A3.

London underground pattern project

Whilst at University, I set myself the challenge to redesign the London Underground upholstery, the lines I made patterns for were Bakerloo, Waterloo, Elizabeth and Piccadilly line. These were made initially by creating four colour linoprints before modifying and digitally making into patterns.
